SEER Rating
SEER is the acronym for “Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio,” which is used to establish cooling efficiency ratings for air conditioners and heat pumps. Higher SEER numbers indicate higher energy performance and federal regulations on cooling efficiency have established regional minimum SEER ratings for new HVAC systems. Minimum SEER ratings for the South are 14 for air conditioners and heat pumps, whether as split systems or packaged units. This means that Florida residents cannot buy systems with lower SEER ratings. Additionally, customers buying systems with SEER ratings of 16-17.99 may be eligible for a $150 rebate from Florida Power & Light. Make sure to ask your Cool Zone technician about this rebate when considering the purchase of a new HVAC system.
