Air Conditioner

Typically used to define self-contained units for cooling smaller residences and business spaces, an air conditioner is any appliance, system, or mechanism specifically designed to dehumidify the air and extract heat from interior spaces. The term “Air Conditioner” is sometimes used to refer to a Condensing Unit, which makes up the outdoor portion of a typical AC system.

Air conditioners operate under the principles of refrigeration, which relies on the transference of heat energy in the air from inside interior spaces to the outdoors. In a continuous circuit aided by pressure, power, blowers, and fans, a liquid refrigerant inside coils captures warm inside air, with the captured heat in turn serving to turn the liquid into a gas, which is then drawn through piping to another set of outside coils, where the heat is released, which turns the refrigerant back into liquid form. Meanwhile, the cooled air inside is circulated by a blower and/or fan(s).
